Lawful and compliant simple flats

Legality: Simple flats are a new policy introduced by the Hong Kong government to address the issue of subdivided flats, aiming to provide legal and safe living environments. These units must meet specific standards, including at least 8 square meters of living space, outdoor windows, independent toilets, as well as separate water and electricity meters and fire detectors.

Compliance: Simple flats need to be certified by the government, valid for up to 5 years, and subject to re-examination every 5 years. This ensures that property owners and residents (note: “airport” in the original text may be a typo for “residents”) can enjoy legal housing protection and avoid risks of illegal leasing.

Safety: The design and facilities of simple flats prioritize the safety of residents, such as independent fire detectors and fire extinguishing equipment (note: “fire cylinder” in the original text may be a typo for “fire-fighting facilities”), reducing fire risks.
